£48 MILLION BID SUBMITTED TO IMPROVE TRAVEL ALONG PENISTONE LINE
One of Mark Eastwood's top priorities is ensuring that our local transport network receives the investment that it needs to make your journey easier, quicker and safer.
As part of that drive, Mark has been working with Kirklees Council to support a bid to the Government’s Levelling Up Fund for a package of works to improve travel along the Penistone Line, which stops at three stations in the constituency: Stocksmoor, Denby Dale and Shepley and currently runs an hourly service, hampering the connectivity of these villages
The bid aims to boost line speeds and upgrade the line to facilitate two trains per hour.
The bid also aims to bring Mobility Hub improvements to Penistone Line Stations. Meaning more cycle parking and improved cycle routes to stations, better and more accessible bus waiting facilities with real-time bus information, better ticket machines, improved lighting and CCTV, new platform seating and shelters, car club bays, electric vehicle charging points, and drop off facilities. It will also include support grants for station adoption groups to make minor improvements such as planting and art displays.
Combined, this package of improvements will provide passengers with a seamless end-to-end journey. It will encourage more people along the line to take the train.
The money is not confirmed, but the Council have put forward our bid, with my endorsement, and now we wait to see if we’re successful!
