Mark is fully supporting the local community in opposition to a proposed solar farm on the border of Wakefield and Kirklees.
Having met with the Save the Sitlington Countryside group on a number of occasions and visited the site to see the impact for himself, Mark has submitted objections to both Wakefield and Kirklees Council to this development.
Mark said:
"This development has had several issues highlighted by the statutory bodies that advise local authorities on the suitability of developments. The fact that it is taking place on an area where extensive mining has been carried out for nearly 200 years rings alarm bells in terms of safety, and there has been significant risk identified in terms of flooding and surface water in the area.
Our future energy needs are important, but so too are the other environmental factors and indeed our food security - which will not be helped by the loss of arable farmland. I have supported clean energy projects previously where there was a clear benefit, but here we must balance net zero with the other environmental and social impacts."
