The Conservative Party has announced that Mark Eastwood has been selected to fight the new seat of Wakefield West and Denby Dale at the next General Election.
With the abolition of the Dewsbury Constituency in its current form, Mark was left with a choice of constituencies containing wards from Dewsbury.
Explaining his decision, Mark Eastwood said:
“There were a number of seats containing parts of the existing constituency which I could have applied for. Wakefield West and Denby Dale will take in the wards of Kirkburton and Denby Dale, and not only does it contain the largest number of people who voted for me in 2019, but it’s also where several members of my family and many of my friends live.
“Until a General Election is called I remain Member of Parliament for Dewsbury, and will continue to advocate for and represent people in all areas of the constituency.
“I sincerely hope that anyone in the current Dewsbury constituency in need of advice or assistance will continue to reach out to me and my team, and I will be - as always - happy to help”
The selection panel consisted of party members from every ward comprising the new constituency, and Mark won the vote with an overwhelming majority.
The new Wakefield West and Denby Dale seat will come into existence at the next General Election and be made up of the Kirklees wards of Kirkburton and Denby Dale, alongside the Wakefield wards of Wakefield Rural, Wakefield South, Horbury and South Ossett and Ossett.
