As Member of Parliament, Mark Eastwood travels all over Dewsbury, Mirfield, Kirkburton and Denby Dale to meet organisations, businesses, charities and community groups, but this time he only had to pop to his local Tesco store to learn more about opportunities for local charities.
Although a familiar face to the store staff, Mark met representatives from Tesco and food waste charity FareShare to hear about how Tesco donates surplus food to charities like FareShare to donate to local community groups.
Shift manager Emily also demonstrated to Mark the process for sorting unsold food ready for donation.
As well as the surplus groceries, staff also explained to Mark the process for being part of the Tesco Community Grants Scheme.
Mark said:
I was surprised that in my local Tesco there was only one Dewsbury good cause available to donate to, so I'm encouraging any local good causes to make sure they register online or they're missing out!
