Rail Minister Huw Merriman MP has visited Ravensthorpe today to coincide with the announcement of nearly £4bn of Government investment in the TransPennine Route Upgrade.
The plans will upgrade the section of the line between Dewsbury and Huddersfield with a brand new viaduct and an increase in the number of tracks from two to four, which will allow faster trains to overtake slower ones - reducing delays and freeing up capacity for more local services.
Huw Merriman said,
"In years to come this site will be the reason we have the ability to have faster trains and more services serving the North - and this project will be leaving a legacy of skills with the incredible opportunities this project brings for apprenticeships".
The brilliant news comes hot on the heels of the £48 million Levelling Up funding for the Penistone Line, which means that services all over the constituency will be improved by the investment delivered by Mark.
Mark said,
"I've met with the Minister on several occasions in Parliament, so I was delighted that he's been able to come here today and see the difference that investment in rail makes to this community. I'm looking forward to welcoming him back to see the progress of all our rail projects in the future."
