On 3rd March, Mark paid a visit to the Arqiva Tower, or as it's better known, Emley Moor Mast - one of the constituency's most iconic landmarks.
As well as touring the site and meeting some of the nearly 200 staff who work there on the grounds and in the various control centres, Mark learned more about some of the less well known uses for the mast.
A lot of people know (thanks to my maiden speech in Parliament!) that it's the tallest freestanding structure in the UK, and that it's taller than Blackpool Tower, the Eiffel Tower and even The Shard, and they probably also know that it's responsible for transmitting TV and radio broadcasts to most of Yorkshire, but did you know that it's also responsible for emergency services radio signals and smart metering for power and water?
Sadly due to maintenance I wasn't able to go right to the top, but I have been promised a trip up the 8 minute long lift on a return visit...
My thanks to the Arqiva team for a very informative tour behind the scenes!
